Work vs. Stay Home
This is a dilemma that most parents face with the birth a child. Even though there is no real right or wrong answer, here a few things that you should consider when making the decision:

  • Is there a financial need to return to work?
  • Is suitable child care accessible and affordable?
  • Are you comfortable with someone else caring for your child?
  • Do you believe that your child can get quality care somewhere other than home?
  • What do YOU feel is the best option for your family?

Child Care Types
If returning to work is the best decision for your family, there are basically four types of child care available to you. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages.
Click here to view pros and cons of each.

Relative Care: A relative, friend, or neighbor cares for your child either in your home or their home.

Nanny Care: A nanny or babysitter cares for your child in your home.

Home Child Care: A caregiver cares for a number of children in his or her own home.

Center-based Child Care: A caregiver cares for your child in a center or other formal, structured environment. All child care centers must be licensed.
