After you have found a suitable child care, it is important that you continue to monitor your child’s behavior and child care center activity to ensure that your child is receiving the best quality care.
What You Should Do
- Help your child adjust by spending time with them everyday
- How does your child feel about his/ her child care?
- Is your child visibly upset or happy to be left with the child care provider?
- Does your child have any bruises or trouble sleeping?
- Review daily reports provided by the child care provider
- Is unusual or inconsistent behavior being reported?
- Has your child been involved in multiple accidents at the child care center?
- Is your child developing at the child care center?
- Talk to your child’s teacher on a regular basis
- Does the teacher seem enthusiastic or stressed?
- Is he/she able to answer questions about your child’s routine?
- Visit the child care facility unexpectedly
- Does the facility have an open-door policy?
- Do the children seem happy or upset while you are there?
- Are the children being supervised?
- Are the appropriate child care standards being met, i.e., child to teacher ratios?
- Last, but not least, remember to trust your instinct! Suspecting that something is wrong is enough to reevaluate your child’s daycare arrangement.
